Itinerary
DAY 1 - ARRIVE IN MARRAKECH & DRIVE TO IMLIL Our group pickup will be at 4:00 PM from Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK). If you arrive earlier, we can arrange private transportation to Imlil for an additional fee. Upon arrival, our team will be waiting for you outside the airport, and from there we will depart for the beautiful mountain village of Imlil. After checking into our rustic mountain riad, you'll have time to settle in before enjoying a traditional Moroccan dinner and a comfortable night's rest as we prepare for the adventure ahead.
DAY 2 - HIKE TO REFUGE You'll begin your morning in Imlil by entrusting your bags to the muleteers before setting out on your mountain adventure. After a traditional Moroccan breakfast, you'll embark on a scenic five-hour hike through the rugged Atlas Mountains to the settlement of Sidi Chamharouch, where your cooks will prepare a fresh lunch. After time to rest and enjoy the mountain views, you'll continue trekking for another three hours to reach Toubkal Base Camp. Upon arrival, you'll settle into the mountain refuge for the evening and enjoy a hearty traditional dinner before resting for the night in preparation for your summit attempt.
DAY 3 - SUMMIT HIKE On the third day we will ascend to the summit of Mount Toubkal, standing at an impressive 4,167 meters. We will rise early at 5 am, fueled by a hearty breakfast at the refuge. After approximately three hours, reach the summit just as the sun graces the horizon, illuminating the snowy expanse. From this elevated vantage point, gaze upon the contrasting landscapes below—the lush greenery of the Anti-Atlas Mountains and the vastness of the Sahara Desert. We’ll take a moment to absorb the panoramic views before beginning the descent, heading downhill toward the charming village of Imlil. *Overnight stay in Riad Bab Imlil or similar.
DAY 4 - IMLIL TO DADES GORGE After departing Imlil in the morning, we'll journey through the stunning Atlas Mountains, passing traditional Berber villages and stopping at a local argan oil cooperative along the way. We'll continue through Ouarzazate and visit the historic Amridil Kasbah, where you'll enjoy a guided tour and learn about the region's traditional self-sustaining lifestyle. By evening, we'll arrive in Dades Gorge and check into our hotel overlooking the lush oasis below, where we'll enjoy dinner and spend the night.
DAY 5 - VIA FERATTA IN TOUDRA GORGE After a night’s rest in the beautiful Gorge, we will wake up early to make the short trip to a nearby gorge called Toudra. This is a place where cliffs rise high above the canyon floor. You will have a chance to walk along the beautiful river that carves the beautiful scene, or do a via feratta hike. We will visit the authentic rug shop where we will learn how Berber rugs are woven, with a chance make a purchase if desired. We will then stop for lunch and henna. We will then make the journey to Merzouga, where you will enjoy your dinner and stay in the beautiful Riad with a warm Berber welcome.
DAY 6 - DESERT DAY Today will begin with a delightful breakfast at the Riad. We will dive into the desert culture beginning with exploring sand dunes in 4X4 vehicles. We will engage in a cultural experience with nomadic communities, sharing tea and gaining insights into their traditional way of life. As we traverse the desert landscape, we’ll take a moment to search for fossils, and listen to the Gnawa African band. We’ll arrive back at the Riad for lunch. After lunch you will have the chance to relax by the pool. If you prefer, you can experience an ATV ride in the dunes (extra fee) before beginning the camel ride to the luxury desert camp. Here we will have an unforgettable experience in the heart of the Sahara desert. Your night stay will be complete with star gazing, Berber music, & a full traditional dinner.
DAY 7- CULURE JOURNEY TO OUARZAZATE We’ll begin the day in the desert camp, waking early to watch sunrise over the dunes and enjoy a bit of sandboarding on the soft golden sand. After breakfast, we’ll depart and pass through the historic desert gate of Rissani, with the option to visit Rissani’s traditional market—one of Morocco’s oldest goat and sheep trading markets—if time allows. We’ll continue toward Ouarzazate, stopping at Aicha’s shop to try on traditional Berber festival clothing before heading to the iconic Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah for a guided tour of its ancient mudbrick architecture and sweeping viewpoints. By evening, we’ll arrive in Ouarzazate to settle into our accommodations after a full and memorable day of travel.
DAY 8 - OUARZAZATE TO MARRAKECH We will wake up, and continue through the scenic High Atlas Mountains, enjoying breathtaking views, and stop at the Tizi n'Tichka pass. We can stop at the Argon oil shop before lunch. As we descend towards Marrakech, we’ll stop to visit the picturesque village of Taddert and experience local culture. We will arrive in Marrakech in the afternoon, where you can take time to immerse yourself into the vibrant atmosphere of the medina. Here, you can explore the bustling souks, and historic landmarks like the Koutoubia Mosque, and the lively Jemaa el-Fna square. In the square you can admire street performers, and colorful fruit stands. End the day with dinner and a stay at your beautiful Riad. It is also possible to take time for a relaxing Hammam in the evening.
DAY 9 - DEPARTURE MARRAKECH After breakfast, take a few final moments to admire the views from the riad and wander the souks for any last treasures. After lunch, your driver will escort you to the airport for your departure, as you carry the memories, connections, and inspiration of your Moroccan journey home.
